In 2011, the Sepsis Alliance designated September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Sepsis is the most expensive inpatient cost in American hospitals, with an average of over $18,000 per hospital stay and more than 1.5 million sepsis hospital stays per year.
Driving Change is a monthly feature that highlights the work of Michigan hospitals and the Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (GLPP HIIN) and provides resources to guide improvement.
Michigan hospitals and the Great Lakes Partners for Patients (GLPP) Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) are working to combat sepsis. Driving Change is a monthly feature that highlights this work and provides resources to guide improvement.
Sepsis is a condition characterized by life-threatening organ dysfunction in response to an infection. Patients who develop sepsis are at high risk for complications and death, in addition to having higher healthcare costs.
