Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of May 15:

The MHA Health Foundation webinar Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records: Complying with the New Federal Law will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. The webinar will examine updates to confidentiality of alcohol and drug abuse patient records regulations (42 CFR Part 2). For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.

The MHA Keystone Obstetrics/Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (MI AIM) Coaching Webinar: Severe Maternal Morbidity will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Dotun Ogunyemi, MD, Beaumont Health, Southfield, will define severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and sentinel event, explain when SMM qualifies as a sentinel event, and list the steps required for SMM review. The MHA Health Information Technology Strategy Committee will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at MHA headquarters. The committee will discuss the recent change in the public health code that facilitates better exchange of behavioral health data and the Learning Health System Knowledge grid developed by the University of Michigan. This meeting will be available via conference call for those that who cannot attend in person. For more information, contact Jim Lee at the MHA.

Applications are being accepted through Aug. 14 for the 2018 Circle of Life Awards, co-sponsored by the American Hospital Association. The awards honor innovative palliative and end-of-life care in hospices, hospitals, healthcare systems, long-term-care facilities and other direct-care providers.
