Shifting Strategic Options Require Governance Knowledge and Skills

Posted on May 13, 2021

The seismic forces disrupting healthcare present boards with a new set of strategic options that will profoundly affect their hospital or health system. These options may shift the mission and require swift action to result in maximum effect. Understanding the depth and breadth of the forces affecting future strategy requires concentrated, prudent introspection.

The MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship is the best choice to help governing board members prepare to perform their vital responsibilities. Each of the sessions are led by experts in governance with a healthcare background. Content areas include governance considerations due to changes incited by the pandemic; the financial, patient safety and quality risks for allowing disparities to continue; the interdependence of physician, executive and board leadership in improving health and patient experience; and how to create a framework to build resiliency and reduce burnout. Fellows will meet in person four times a year and meet virtually between those sessions.

Applications are due June 30 for the 2021-2022 Excellence in Governance Fellowship, which will be held from October 2021 through June 2022. Space is limited for this class. To further explore this one-of-a-kind offering, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
