MHA Member Forum Explored Health Finance Issues

Posted on December 18, 2020

The MHA hosted a forum Dec. 17 to assist members in navigating complex health finance issues and outlining priorities for the coming year. More than 65 people attended to hear about provider relief fund reporting requirements, virtual care policies and more. The agenda included an update on the 2020-2021 MHA Action Plan, with a review of statewide trends and ongoing association priorities related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members engaged in a discussion of reporting requirements for provider relief funds with a presentation by special guest speaker Joanna Hiatt Kim, vice president of payment policy at the American Hospital Association, and discussion facilitated by Matt Cox, chief financial officer at Spectrum Health System. In addition, the forum included an overview of virtual care policies implemented by payers during the COVID-19 pandemic, with discussion on the desired future state of virtual care facilitated by Mark Hepler, chief financial officer at Munson Healthcare.

This forum was graciously sponsored by MHA endorsed business partner MCAG, whose class action settlement recovery service is an exceptional source for nontraditional revenue that is used by over 1,400 hospitals nationwide. Visit the MCAG enrollment webpage and enter code “MHASC5” to take advantage of current unprecedented opportunities totaling over $8 billion in settlement funds.

The MHA will develop additional forums throughout the year to discuss trends impacting hospitals and health systems and tackle the challenges that are affecting providers’ ability to provide vital services to their communities. Questions about the member forum and future offerings should be directed to Erin Steward at the MHA.
