Facebook Live Series Offers Evidence-based Smoking Cessation Methods

Posted on July 08, 2020

Approximately 34 million American adults smoke combustible cigarettes, but 68% have said they want to quit. The need to quit has become even more critical as research begins to show a higher risk of poor outcomes in COVID-19 patients who smoke.

Med-IQ Inc., in partnership with the National Association of Counties Research Foundation, is hosting the Facebook Live series Getting Social About Smoking Cessation and E-Cigarette Use: Finding Your Way to Quit to offer a comprehensive look at the emerging data on the negative health effects associated with e-cigarette use. This series aligns well with the MHA’s support of efforts to ban flavored vaping products and prevent e-cigarette use among adolescents.

Presenters Hilary Tindle, MD, MP, and Jodi Prochaska, PhD, MPH, will provide an in-depth look at the negative health effects associated with e-cigarette use and discuss details on evidence-based smoking cessation aids that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The series is designed to inform adults who want to stop using combustible cigarettes and/or e-cigarettes about options to consider in their cessation attempts.

The video series will cover the questions/topics below and take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on each of the following Wednesdays:

  • July 8 — Using E-Cigarettes to Quit Smoking: What’s the Evidence?
  • July 15 — Ready to Quit? Tips to Stop Smoking and Vaping
  • July 22 — Ready to Quit Smoking? Learn About Effective Aids to Quit
  • Aug. 5 — Ready to Quit Smoking? Learn How Your Healthcare Provider Can Help

The series is being broadcast through social media influencers and lifestyle vloggers, and those who would like to participate can do so on Facebook. This activity is funded in part by the Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation and supported by an educational grant from Pfizer, Inc. Questions about the series should be directed to Adam Glazer or Christen Murphy at Med-IQ Inc.
