Bridge Magazine: What Democrats’ Medicare for All plans would mean for Michigan

On Jan. 27 Bridge Magazine published an article on the potential impact in Michigan from Medicare for All plans.

The article mentions Medicare reimbursement rates and the unknown surrounding what the federal government would pay medical providers in a Medicare for All plan. Laura Appel, senior vice president and chief innovation officer, MHA, is quoted on Medicare rates failing to reimburse for the full cost of care.

“We can’t have everybody pay 90 cents of every dollar of cost and keep our system afloat,” said Appel. “There would be a number of organizations who would find it difficult to stay open. I’m not talking about hospitals, particularly — there’s all kinds of providers that are beyond hospitals.”
