Bridge Magazine: Michigan Republican pushes to deregulate health care. Some hospitals call foul.

Adam CarlsonOn Jan. 8 Bridge Magazine published an article on a seven-bill package introduced in the Michigan Senate that would reform Certificate of Need (CON).

The article references the MHA’s opposition to exempting critical access hospitals from CON oversight and removing the need for CON approval for outpatient cardiac catheterization. Adam Carlson, senior director, government & political affairs, MHA, is quoted on removing critical access hospital oversight.

“It creates significant issues on who is exempt and who is not exempt,” said Carlson. “It could result in increased cost and unnecessary duplication of services.”
