MHA Fully Supports Fiscal Year 2020 Legislative Budget

Posted on September 24, 2019

The following statement can be attributed to Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.

MHA CEO Brian PetersThe MHA fully supports the fiscal year 2020 legislative budget that will make key strides in protecting and improving access and quality of care for Michigan residents. For too long, inadequate Medicaid reimbursement rates have placed a burden on hospitals in Michigan, especially those that are small or rural. We are encouraged that this Legislature is supporting a more sustainable, long-term funding environment for hospitals by ensuring Medicaid reimbursements are closer to the cost of providing care. With the maintained support for the Rural Access Pool and Obstetrics Stabilization Fund, this Legislature is protecting vital safety net services and care in Michigan’s most remote areas. The Legislature is also helping protect our state’s most vulnerable residents by fully funding the Healthy Michigan Plan and seeking to improve behavioral health services for pediatric inpatient psychiatric care. The MHA encourages Gov. Whitmer to sign this budget so that every community in Michigan can continue to access the healthcare services they need.
