MHA Issues Call for Michigan Harvest Gathering Project Leaders

Posted on August 23, 2019

Michigan Harvest GatheringWith a campaign goal of 2.5 million meals, the MHA is asking that members renew their support of the Michigan Harvest Gathering (MHG) by conducting food drives within their facilities. The MHG is a one-of-a-kind emergency food program that benefits hungry Michigan families through the member food banks of the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM) and more than 3,000 community agencies.

To confirm support, members are asked to submit a project leader designation form through the association’s MHG webpage. A 2019 project leader list will be updated weekly on the MHG webpage as online forms are received.

The key responsibilities of a project leader will be to form teams to help plan and carry out food and fund drives, as well as work with regional food banks on transportation.

MHA members are also encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to financially contribute online to the MHG. By giving through FeedMichigan.org, members of the healthcare family can indicate they are donating through the MHA, specify the hospital or health system they are affiliated with, and indicate whether they would like their donation to be designated to a specific FBCM-member food bank. More information is available in the MHA’s MHG Project Leader Handbook.

The MHA and Michigan hospitals have long supported MHG, last year contributing nearly $60,000 and more than 40,000 million pounds of food.

The official kickoff of the statewide campaign will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 2 at Hunter Park Garden House in Lansing. Complimentary promotional items, including posters and table tents, are also available for order on the MHA Harvest Gathering webpage. Questions on the Michigan Harvest Gathering should be directed to Erin Steward at the MHA.
