Trustee Day at the Capitol Set to Prepare Governing Boards for Healthcare Advocacy

Posted on August 08, 2019

Michigan capitol buildingHealthcare governing board members recognize the uncertainty of healthcare policy dictated by federal and state lawmakers. One example is the recently passed law regarding Michigan’s auto no-fault insurance that gives Michigan drivers the option to purchase different levels of personal injury protection and shifts their coverage following an auto accident to their health insurance. Therefore, it is critical that both hospital administration and governing bodies understand the impact of health policy, good or bad, to enable them to advocate for changes that positively impact Michigan providers.

To that end, the MHA will host a trustee day at the Capitol from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Oct. 15 at the MHA Capitol Advocacy Center in downtown Lansing. The morning will begin with critical updates on the state budget and initiatives focused on health equity and improvement. Following those presentations, a representative from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will review the Medicaid work requirements for Healthy Michigan Plan enrollees, including the administration of the plan, data reporting and how healthcare is funded for low-income residents. The morning will wrap up with briefings on auto no-fault insurance and patient safety. After lunch, participants will hear about changes related to access to and funding of behavioral health services, the progress resulting from targeted programs and how communities could strengthen these programs.

There is no charge for the event, but registration is required. For additional information, contact Paige Fults or Erin Steward at the MHA.
