MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship Prepares Trustees to Lead
Posted on May 16, 2019
Strategic thinking is a critical skill for all healthcare leaders, and healthcare organizations are made stronger through governing boards who work in strategic partnership with management to achieve the best for their patients and communities. These board members help envision the future, serve as a source of broader thought leadership for the organization, and assist in discerning and framing issues the organization must address to prepare for the future. Fulfilling these duties takes knowledge, preparation and action, which is why hospital leaders should strongly consider enrolling board members in the MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship.
The fellowship is a rigorous and comprehensive program that delivers tools and knowledge in four strategic areas: principles of effective governance, improving quality and safety, building collaborative medical staff partnerships, and leadership growth. The fellowship is led by experts in governance with a healthcare background, and MHA senior leaders will share their extensive knowledge about initiatives to prepare the field for the future. New board members will quickly learn how healthcare is unique from other enterprises in terms of mission, reimbursement, regulations, partnerships and the impact of quality and safety. More advanced board members will build their confidence to lead strategy around new delivery models, act as stakeholder and partner, and understand their accountability as a board member.
Now is the time to talk with trustees about enrollment for the 2019-2020 Excellence in Governance Fellowship, because applications are due June 15. To further explore this one-of-a-kind offering, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
