Governance Competencies Focus of Fellowship

Posted on May 01, 2019

MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship logoAn effective board needs committed, skilled members who are unafraid to ask difficult questions of each other, the CEO and the leadership team. The board should not only focus on its fiduciary role, but also on its responsibility in creating a culture that promotes communication, psychological safety and transparency. As healthcare focuses on continuous improvement and strategies to test new delivery models and develop a culture of trust evolve quickly, both seasoned and newer board members must be prepared to lead in a changing environment. That’s why the MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship is as relevant today as it was nearly two decades ago.

The fellowship focuses on four strategic pillars: principles of effective governance, improving quality and patient safety, building collaborative medical staff partnerships, and leadership growth to build strong relationships with the community and stakeholders. Fellows meet in person for one day each quarter of the year at MHA headquarters in Okemos and virtually in the intervening months.

Now is the time to consider enrolling a board member in the 2019-2020 Excellence in Governance Fellowship. To further explore this one-of-a-kind offering, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
