Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital Nurse Recognized for Speaking Up
Posted on April 30, 2019
The MHA Keystone Center has presented the first quarter 2019 MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award to Dawn Willoughby, RN, of Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.
The award was created in 2016 and celebrates individuals in MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization member hospitals who speak up to prevent potential harm to staff or patients.
Willoughby was recognized for raising concerns about a patient in the emergency department (ED). She helped eliminate preventable harm by voicing her thoughts that the patient needed to be reevaluated, telling the physician in charge and contacting the administrator on call.
Willoughby’s decision to speak up ensured the patient received the proper care during the ED visit and guaranteed that a safe discharge plan was developed with the patient and their family. An MHA Keystone Center Board of Directors member applauded Willoughby’s persistence for safeguarding the patient and making sure they were attended to properly.
Willoughby is the first recipient of the award at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Additional award finalists for the first quarter of 2019 include:
- Cathi Cornelius and Penny Cox, Munson Medical Center, Traverse City
- Earl Rupert, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe
Members with questions should contact the MHA Keystone Center PSO.
