Annual MHA Retreat Unites Michigan Communications Professionals

The 2018 MHA Communications Retreat recently brought together more than 80 communications, marketing and public relations professionals who work in hospitals across the state. Participants spent the day networking and building skills geared toward the specific needs of hospital communicators.
Ginger Plumbo, communications manager, issues & crisis communications, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, presented a case study on how a media relations experience can turn into crisis management.
A panel of communicators discussed the changing journalism landscape and answered questions from the audience on best practices for media relations and redefining news. Roger Martin, partner, Martin Waymire, Lansing, moderated the panel comprised of Mark Sanchez, senior writer, MiBiz, Grand Rapids; Kathy Barks Hoffman, vice president, Martin Waymire; and Plumbo.
Brian Peters, MHA CEO, also provided an update on key issues facing Michigan hospitals and the association, while previewing the upcoming Michigan elections and the impact they will have on healthcare policy.
Andrea Ness, outreach and engagement director, Güd Marketing, Lansing, shared how to adapt to ever-changing social media rules to achieve better engagement. Lori Bahnmueller, partner, director of strategy, Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing, Birmingham, addressed digital marketing trends and tactics that can influence the patient/consumer experience in healthcare and build stronger brand recognition.
