Revisions to FY 2019 IPPS and LTCH Final Rules Will Delay Payments

Posted on October 05, 2018

In August, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a final rule to update the Medicare fee-for-service inpatient and long-term care hospital prospective payment system rates that took effect Oct. 1.

On Oct. 3, the CMS issued a correction to the final rule, including revised standardized operating base payment amounts, outlier threshold, wage index values, uncompensated care payment factors, etc.

Due to these revisions, the CMS instructed Medicare Administrative Contractors to hold inpatient claims for discharge dates of Oct. 1 through Oct. 22, 2018. The agency anticipates the release and payment of these claims will begin Oct. 22. Members with questions should contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
