Leadership Corner: Improving Care Together
Posted on October 05, 2018
The Leadership Corner features monthly updates from the MHA leadership team. The updates will provide new insights to patient safety and quality as well as information obtained from healthcare workshops and conferences across the country.
Brittany Bogan, executive director, MHA Keystone Center, discusses how the MHA and its member health systems work together to enhance healthcare quality and safety.
The MHA Keystone Center just released it 2017-2018 annual report, which focuses on collaboration between member health systems and the MHA Keystone Center to improve care. Within the report, we are proud to share stories on how Michigan hospitals are tackling the opioid epidemic, and reducing readmissions and hospital-acquired injuries. Our hope is that these stories will help provide other hospitals with practical and usable insights and foster peer-to-peer learning.
The report also highlights the MHA Keystone Center’s 15-year anniversary and demonstrates how Michigan hospitals have collaborated with the MHA Keystone Center since its inception to serve the healthcare needs of Michigan residents, improve quality and cultivate a culture of safe care.
To each of you that has been involved in achieving these outcomes over the years, THANK YOU! We truly are improving care together.
Every acute care hospital in Michigan currently participates in at least one MHA Keystone Center initiative – from membership in our Patient Safety Organization to participation on the MHA’s Person and Family Engagement Council or Quality & Accountability Committee to nomination submissions for our Advancing Safe Care and Speak Up! Awards, to engagement in the Great Lakes Partners for Patients HIIN.
Our team uses these metrics of engagement to ensure we are providing the resources, education and collaborative opportunities that help you to provide reliably safe, high quality care. Please continue to provide your feedback and share your stories. We take this seriously and strive to provide the support you need.
Looking forward, the MHA Keystone Center has recently finalized its action plan for the year ahead and the overarching priorities focus on sustaining member engagement, fostering a culture of high reliability, driving toward continued harm reduction and providing meaningful data analytics.
At a more detailed level, we are launching and supporting initiatives around opioid stewardship, workplace safety, transitions of care, maternal morbidity and mortality and addressing healthcare disparities.
Each of these topics is of critical importance and will be themes that you see woven into all our activities this program year.
On behalf of the entire Keystone Center team, thank you for your engagement and support. We are incredibly excited to continue our work together, collaborating statewide, and across the Midwest region to achieve the highest quality healthcare outcomes for those we serve.
