Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Oct. 8:

  • The Michigan Green Healthcare Conference will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at Grand Valley State University-Eberhard Center, Grand Rapids. The MHA Michigan Green Healthcare Conference includes general and breakout sessions that dive deeper into the positive impacts Michigan hospitals and other healthcare organizations have made by encouraging sustainability in healthcare.   • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Innovation Improvement Network High Reliability Organization monthly webinar, Reducing Sepsis Mortality, will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Thomas J. Russell, MD, sepsis clinical lead, Northern California North Valley Department of Emergency Medicine, Kaiser Permanente, will be the webinar’s featured speaker.   • The MHA Behavioral Health Integration Task Force will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the MHA Capitol Advocacy Center, Lansing. The task force will discuss its work plan for the program year, including infrastructure and staffing needs for developmentally disabled persons who need psychiatric care, payment for psychiatric patients boarding in acute care hospitals, and defining behavioral and psychiatric integrated care for MHA members.   • The MHA Health Foundation webinar “Perspective is Everything: Three Strategies to Create a Highly Reliable Patient Experience” will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday. The webinar will cover fundamental strategies to strengthen leadership, patient and family partnerships, and staff engagement. For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.

  • Michigan’s gubernatorial contest is the subject of this week’s MHA Election 2018 Race of the Week installment. The weekly series, which will run until Election Day, will examine major statewide races and ballot issues facing voters Nov. 6.
