Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Aug. 13:

  • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network High Reliability Organization monthly webinar “Daily Annoyances or Unsafe Conditions? High Reliability on the Front Lines” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Coleen Smith, RN, MBS, CPHQ, CPSS, director, high reliability initiatives, Center for Transforming Healthcare, Oakbrook Terrace, IL, will discuss how to create an environment of accountability and reliability.   • F. Karl Neumann, 87, died July 9 at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City. Neumann was president and CEO of Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1990. The hospital recognized him and his lengthy period of service by renaming the west wing of the Lansing facility the Neumann Wing. After retiring from Sparrow, Neumann spent several years as CEO of the MHA Insurance Company, now part of Coverys. A memorial service will be held in the fall, and memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to the Traverse Health Clinic.
