VerifyMICare, MHA Legislative Agenda Highlighted in WJR Broadcast
Posted on January 26, 2018
On Jan. 24, Detroit’s WJR News Talk Radio broadcast the Frank Beckmann Show “Live from Lansing” as part of its coverage of Gov. Rick Snyder’s state of the state address and the legislative issues facing the state in 2018. The MHA sponsored the broadcast, which was hosted at the Capitol.
As part of the program lineup, WJR’s Guy Gordon, filling in for Frank Beckmann due to illness, spoke with MHA Executive Vice President David Seaman about a wide range of topics, from this year’s flu season to the congressional repeal of the individual health insurance mandate. They also discussed a long-term funding solution for the Children’s Health Insurance Program and the ongoing debate over federal funding of the 340B Drug Discount Program, which is designed to help provide safety-net hospitals and other healthcare providers serving vulnerable patient populations with some relief from escalating drug prices. Seaman also discussed the MHA’s recently launched website VerifyMICare.org, which is designed to give consumers and patients easy, understandable access to quality data for Michigan hospitals.
Other notable interviewees during the event included Gov. Rick Snyder, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekof and House Speaker Tom Leonard.
As a sponsor of the event, the MHA developed a 30-second message for airing before and during the broadcast. For more information, contact Laura Wotruba at the MHA.
