News to Know – Week of Nov. 20

Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Nov. 20:

  • The MHA Monday Report will not be published Monday, Nov. 27, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The next issue of the Monday Report will be dated Dec. 4. Timely news will appear in the MHA Newsroom before and after the holiday. Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
  • The MHA Behavioral Health Integration Task Force will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek. The agenda will include a review of the recommendations of the Michigan Inpatient Psychiatric Access Discussion (MIPAD) group, which concluded earlier this month. Task force members will consider options for achieving successful funding and implementation of the MIPAD results. For more information, contact Laura Appel at the MHA.
  • The MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Safe Table will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Inn at Bay Harbor in Bay Harbor. The PSO Safe Table: Rural Health will discuss the current struggles for healthcare organizations operating in rural settings. For more information, contact Adam Novak at the MHA.
  • The MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization Root Cause Analysis Training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Inn at Bay Harbor in Bay Harbor. The PSO RCA² Training will allow participants to learn about identifying and classifying events, assembling an RCA² team, steps and tools for analysis, measuring effectiveness, and process sustainability.   • The MHA Legislative Policy Panel will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the MHA Capitol Advocacy Center. The group will discuss the recent legislative effort to make changes to the state’s auto no-fault insurance system, as well as other state and federal issues pertinent to the healthcare community.   • DataGen will host a national webinar from 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 to review the calendar year 2018 update to the Medicare outpatient prospective payment system. Registration is required for this free webinar. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the update recently and analysis of the changes is underway. The MHA expects to provide hospitals with hospital-specific and Michigan impact reports by the end of December. For more information, contact Marilyn Litka-Klein at the MHA.
  • Members of governing boards at MHA-member hospitals are encouraged to take advantage of the trustee-focused resources, tools and education available on the American Hospital Association (AHA) Trustee Services portal. It includes articles, tools and webinars on cybersecurity, quality accrediting agencies, CEO performance appraisal and population health partnerships. The fall edition of AHA Trustee Insights is available now and highlights the governance of foundations and fund development in hospitals and health systems.
