Upcoming events and important healthcare news:

  • An MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization Safe Table focused on behavioral health will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the VisTaTech Center, Schoolcraft College, Livonia. The safe table will bring together healthcare professionals to discuss prevailing barriers with regard to patient and staff safety and will further explore actions to mitigate and eliminate behavioral-health-related harm. Online registration is requested, while questions about the event may be directed to Adam Novak at the MHA.
  • DataGen, a subsidiary of the Healthcare Association of New York State, will host a free webinar to review the fiscal year 2018 inpatient prospective payment system final rule that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released in early August. The webinar will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, and registration is required. For more information, contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
  • The MHA is entering its 20th year as a primary sponsor of the Michigan Harvest Gathering, a Food Bank Council of Michigan campaign that is a vital step in the fight against hunger and an important component of the overall healthcare mission of the MHA and its members. This year’s campaign is set to officially kick off at 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at the state Capitol in Lansing. MHA-member organizations are urged to designate project leaders to coordinate onsite food and fund drives as part of this statewide effort. Project team designation forms and additional information are available on the MHA’s Michigan Harvest Gathering webpage. For more information, contact Andrea Duguay at the MHA.
  • Nominations for the fourth quarter MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award are due by Oct. 24. The quarterly award celebrates individuals or teams within MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization hospitals who speak up against patient or staff harm. More information about the award and nomination process are available online. Questions may be directed to Adam Novak at the MHA.
  • The Texas Hospital Association (THA) has established the THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund to provide financial assistance to those who experienced significant property loss as a result of Hurricane Harvey and are employees of hospitals located in one of the 18 Federal Emergency Management Agency-designated disaster areas. The THA webpage provides information on various methods to donate to the fund, which will be distributed to full- and part-time hospital employees based on specific eligibility criteria. Donations are tax-deductible. For more information, contact the THA Service Center at (512) 467-1056.
