The recent conflicts among political parties expose the reality of healthcare complexity. Reducing costs, increasing coverage, improving quality and safety, and insuring access are easy to say, but hard to do. Governing boards must respond to a rapidly evolving environment and be confident in their ability to foster new delivery models. The MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship is the most comprehensive program board members can undertake to be a strategic leader.
The fellowship faculty have vast knowledge of healthcare issues and policy, as well as a board member’s role in strategic leadership. Faculty explore the competencies needed to understand healthcare finance, support a culture of safety and improvement, create healthcare delivery models required in today’s value-based environment, and comply with laws and regulatory policies. Fellows complete exercises with hospital leaders and classmates that demonstrate how serious and important their governing duties are in each of the competencies. Participants meet five times over the course of a year.
The fellowship began more than a decade ago, and graduates have high praise for it. Applications for the 2017-2018 class of the fellowship are due June 16. To further explore this offering, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
