Amy Barkholz is general counsel for the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA), a trade association that represents Michigan’s community hospitals and the patients they serve. In this role she serves as the chief legal officer for the association and its related entities, including the MHA Keystone Center, the MHA Health Foundation and the MHA Service Corporation. Barkholz is part of the MHA’s executive team and has been with the organization since 1994. Prior to serving as general counsel, Barkholz was the MHA’s senior director, regulatory issues, where she focused her advocacy efforts on the state Certificate of Need program, state administrative rules, health facility and professional licensing issues, emergency medical services, trauma care, and other regulatory and legal issues. She also served as the principal association staff liaison on rural health issues.
Barkholz holds a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political theory from Michigan State University’s James Madison College. She has been a member of the Michigan Bar since 1994 and has served on the board of the State Bar of Michigan’s Health Care Law Section.
