Senior Vice President, Policy & Chief Operating Officer, MHA Service Corporation
Peter J. Schonfeld is the chief operating officer of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Service Corporation, the for-profit subsidiary of the MHA, and senior vice president, Policy, for the MHA, where he has been employed since 1995. His responsibilities include policy analysis, healthcare finance and data management, and analysis services. Schonfeld is also a member of the Michigan Health Information Technology Commission. Housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the 13-member commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of Michigan’s healthcare information systems.
Prior to his present position, Schonfeld was vice president at Mission Health and Catherine McAuley Health System, Ann Arbor, and president of McPherson Hospital, Howell. He worked in Chicago for 10 years at suburban and central city hospital locations. He has served on various boards, including Michigan State University Health Policy, VHA Michigan, Care Choices HMO, Allegiance Physician Hospital Organization (700 physicians and four hospitals), Partners Preferred Providers, South East Michigan Hospital Council, Multi-hospital Mutual Insurance, Michigan National Bank – Brighton, Child & Family Services, and various community organizations.
Schonfeld holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Kalamazoo College. He also holds a Master of Management degree from the Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, where he majored in finance, managerial economics and health services Management.
